Need some help with alternator upgrade

Hey guys,

So I'm working on upgrading my alternator right now to the Bosch AL129X style. I have it pretty much in place, and I have it all the way over but the belts will not even began to fit. I was reading and noticed that some of the other people who have done that upgrade opted for a smaller pulley so that the belts would fit and so that the alternator would make more power at idle. Where can I get the smaller pulley? I need to know ASAP so I can get it ordered if needed and get it installed.

Thanks!

If no one comes up with a part number for the smaller Pulley you will need to go to an Alternator Shop and ask them.

That's what I was figuring. Thanks for the reply. Also, if I can't acquire a smaller pulley, I could get longer belts. How hard is it to get the two fan/alternator belts out? I see the AC and PS pump belts are in the way. Is there a trick to removing those?

Well I looked up removing the other bolts, and it does seem a bit tricky. Perhaps I should look more into this pulley.

Sorry, I always forget to add that. And my car is a 1984 300D. I'm not sure about the size belt, and I'm not near the car right now. I will say this, last I messed with the car, I was actually able to get the belts around the stock pulley, but that was with the alternator pushed all the way up in the bracket, crooked, and with the bottom of the alternator completely out of the bracket. Something tells me even though I got the belt on, I wont be able to get it straightened out and mounted with the stock pulley.

ok, so it's a turbo 617, so dual belts... possibly 1000mm versions, 1035 is for the 123's, but, yours may have been changed to the smaller WP pulley, if not, and you can't find a larger belt, you may want to find an 83+SD, and rob the wp pulley from it, likely the alt pulley is smaller on that car as well...
