Most of the members on here who have been playing with cars for a while know better than to take risks with cars on jacks.
Its a good idea to remind each other from time to time !!!
A ton of car does not say excuse me as it falls on you !!!

Good topic. What are the best jack stands to support up a w123 without damaging the black rubber undercoating too much?

I have made in USA OTC stands that are very sturdy. But with the typical shape, they can cut the rubber. Putting a block of wood in there isnt the best compromise, IMO.

So what is the right interface to properly protect the undersides of our cars from the damaging effects of jack stands?

I always also use a few very large blocks of wood for the car to fall on if the jackstand goes.

Ideal would be the custom-made supports that Mercedes suggests -- the ones that fit into the jack mounts. But they're hard to find and probably not secure if your jack mounts are rusted out.

I've always used the block-of-wood-on-the-jack-stand method. I actually find it's pretty secure because the wood will crush a little to conform to the top of the stand and whatever part of the car it's under, sometimes to the point where I have to pry it off one or the other after lifting the car again.

I electrical taped a thick piece of foam rubber to the top of some of my jack stands. Seems to work out ok.

Those look pretty nice. I always feel like the pin-type locking systems are potentially more secure than the ratchet-type.
