Its an upscale 240D (note the wood and electric windows), from a place where cars are very well kept and the climate optimal for keeping old cars. Plus note the mileage... Nice and low.

Worth a solid look.

lol, all that may be true, but its still a 2 ton car powered by a pair of hamsters and an angry gerbil, with asthmatic power transfer to the wheels.

The very fact that its from a place where cars are very well kept and in an ideal climate means there are tons of 300Ds and 240D 4-speeds floating around for less money is all im saying.

Today I see the car

This afternoon I will meet the lady in Montery and check out this 240.

My Bro In Law isn`t all that concernerd with buying a cheaper 123 that is going to need a ton things done to it. He is a Hot Rod guy and is use to dumping tons of money in building them. so this isn`t going to hurt him all that much. sure if he can get it for $1500, Iam sure he would be happy.

I will say he is not a mercedes guy, but has watched us for the past several years, and is impressed with these cars. I will probably doing his maintenance for him. He is more of a Chevy guy. the more he gets into what ever 123 he buys, he will become a MB guy.

He has a 41 Willy`s gasser he has been working for the past 5 yrs, when they get it back on the road, probably be in the 6 figures.

I have sold a few 240s to friends around the neighborhood and none are really into them like I am so I cut lots of deals for helping them. All my computer work and plumbing needs are taken care of, not to mention lots of miscellaneous trades with folks that have excavators and cats.

Well dumb a@@ here couldn`t post anything last night,. he dumped a cup of coffee on his keyboard.
No problem, right/ just rinse it off in the sink and blow it out with some compressed canned air, and be back in business, not. damn can lost their oomph it was so cold out, then dried it with a heat gun gently going back and forth.

plug it back in, and nothing. finaly got it to work, but some of the letters didn`t work. fiddled with is some more, and then n othing worked, except the little pop up that said the device wasn`t connected to the computer or whatever.
So today I drove 35 miles to Fry`s Electronics in San Jose, and they had the same one. and bought 2.

Sooo, back in business.

Yesterday we drove down to Monterey to see the 82 240D, and met the lady in the Home Depot parking lot. damn it was cold with the wind blowing in off the ocean. felt like blowing in off an ice burg.

Crawled all over this thing, and there is zero rust and no leaks. back seats look like no one ever sat on them, inside is not sun baked, and the door gaskets are maybe a 9 out of 10. carpet is in great shape as well as the head liner. all glass is good. this thing was always garaged, and lookes it.

she just had the upper control arms, lower ball joints, rear calipers, brake hoses and pads replaced. brake fluid is clear. also new tires and has the 5 1/2" Light Alloy wheels. has the first aid kit and the tool kit in the trunk, and a car cover. steering lock and tumbler have also just been replaced. but the shop didn`t match the tumbler with the Vin#. so 2 different keys.

the negitives I found, drivers seat has a broken spring, need door check on drivers door, inside chrome door handle is broken, antenna doesn`t work, one back up light out, and a vacuum issue. some debris in the hinge pockets, but clean under it. no rust.

we drove the car around town, and has good acceleration compared to my 80 240 which is a stick. first auto 240D I have driven. brakes work good, and steering is fairly tight.

we were sitting in my car for about 10 min talking about the 82, and realised I forgot to see if the antenna worked. turned the key and nothing, so started the engine, and still no workie. so turned off the engine, and it was slowly choking it`s self to death. turned key back on, and reved the eng for a bit, and she shut off. door lock didn`t work during this time. so Mity vac time.

As with most 240`s, no right mirror. and I found one in my stash, also have the inside handle and a 126 spring box out of a 90 something. fixing the seat is no big deal. measure the 126 2nd gen spring box against a 123, and they are the same dimentions. the 126 has an added up grade to the springs, and the rubber piece that fits into the corner coil springs.

As far as price, she was asking $4800, but lowest she will go is $4500. called my bro in law, and he is ok with it.

So tomarrow soon as he get here from work, we are driving down to pick it up.

Awesome! Congrats on the 240!

It's nice that the seals are good - that's the one area that my 240D needs, as the seals look dry and show slight cracking.

Can't wait to see pics!

a tick below FIVE KAY!!! wow... I gotta see pics of this car.

I'd have at LEAST gotten her to knock off 500 for the door issues, and the seat springs...

but if the front end is tight, and new parts installed recently, she likely spent 2 or so thousand in recent repairs, so she's likely wanting the money back in the sale.

That's true. She didn't get under there and do the repairs herself, and she doesn't want to give the car away to recoup her losses. Still seems like a lot of money for a 240 with issues. In any case, that's in the past. Enjoy the car!

I did see 2 of the repair invoices, and I remember one being $3,000.

As far as the seat and door issue, I have the inside crome handle I got from PNP off a rear door and almost new.

I have the seat springs, about $12 from PNP.
and a door check from PNP that was a replacement and new condition.

so just a matter of R&Ring the seat, I have done several, no big deal, except for a little time. the door handle is just removing the door panel and 3 10mm bolts and driving out the pin from the strap.
the door handle is just removing 2 phillips screws, and slipping it off the rod, and slipping the new one on and tighten it down.

I didn`t find any rust on the car, jack points clean, like new. and that really impressed me. she also had a Carfax report. didn`t really show anything of importance.

Ya this is a 30 yr old 123, and not perfect, none of them are, they all have something that needs attention.

My 80 240D we got for free from the original owner 2 yrs ago, Iam guessing I have over $1800 into it and needs a few more things I have on my to do list. now if we paid say $2,000 for it as I see a lot going for in this area, and then the $1800, we are getting right up to where this car is. and this 82 is in much better condition even with the few thing I need to do to it. so we pay on one of the purchase or the other end.

We should be picking up the car this afternoon around 4 - 5:30pm depending on traffic, and my Bro in Law is working until 2pm and then has the 65 miles to get here from the Bay area. then the 40 miles to Monterey.

Coming from the rust belt it sounds like a rightous car to me.

My 85 300SD that I bought from Mark in Memphis two years ago is now looking good with fresh paint. It was on the lift the other day and the bottom looks like a new car. I am busy chasing phantom squeeks at the moment but it now runs and rides like a new car.

I was going to sell it but now I am leaning toward keeping it since it is so clean.
