Is This Right? OM603 in '91 350SD

There is a gap of about 1/4" between the timing cover and the bracket that holds the fuel filter and steering pump. Should there be something in there taking up this space? Bolts pass through the timing cover into this bracket and it would seem that something should take up this space.

IIRC when you mount the pwr strg pump that gap will go away. The rear bracket of the pwr strg pump goes in that gap.

I just did the same job and everything came out good.

I think the tabs on the steering pump are too big to fit into that gap-

I have a photo of an unknown year 603, out of a car which seems to show spacers in this gap between the timing cover and the bracket. Does anyone have any photos of an installed 603 showing this area?

hmmm, I just did the same job and and the tabs on the pump fit fine. I used the original '91 350SDL pump.
