Well that's what I'm going to have to do. The trany is way to far gone for re build even Lucas dose not help. I'm sure that I can tweak and adjust the vac. modulator and the kick-down cable to make it work other ppl have done it.

You will need the Ign switch from the diesel as it has the vacuum switch to connect to the shut off pot on the IP Gas vehicle won't have one. I have owned both a 190D 2.5 NA and a 190e 2.3. at the same time. The gasser had 50-75% more power than the diesel. The 2.2 is a NA engine so options are limited for more power, no turbo means more fuel just makes more smoke not power. On the other hand It should get extremely good fuel economy. If you could find a 5 speed instead of the gasser auto it would go some ways towards making the car pleasant to drive.Good luck Dan

I am using the gasser tranny. When I drove it in gasser form, it would rarely shift much above 4500-4800rpm unless you really nailed it to the floor, diesel redline is about 5200, so with a bit of bowden cable tweaking to make the gasser tranny shift a bit earlier than it usually would, it should do just fine. I don't really plan on driving mine like a race car....its going to be my fuel efficient city cruiser + long trip eco car......neither will require revving the heck out of it.

I have my 420 for going quickly.

pawoSD what is a "bowden cable" is it the kick-down cable? since you have accomplished this can you give me a good detailed write up of your swap and tuning? I would greatly value it. Also how did you connect the vac. modulator?

I have not done the swap yet, I have the stuff to do it. For some reason the gasser engine decided to run decently after being parked for 4 months. No idea why, I am going to keep driving it until it acts up again. Either way I will probably do the swap by the middle of the summer.

The bowden cable attaches to the throttle lever, it has a rubber accordian covering on it, this cable is adjustable and controls when the transmission shifts based on throttle position, sooner or later shifts depending on how far the pedal is pressed. For a gasser trans with a diesel you'd want to calibrate it a bit earlier so it will shift at lower rpms than it would with a gasser.

All existing vacuum hoses that are on the D will go with it, including the vacuum modulator line (black) to the trans. As far as vacuum is concerned, the trans should not know that a Diesel is powering it.

I'd leave it the same. Stock is a 3.07 or so I believe, which should be fine with the diesel. I have no plans on changing mine, unless I can find a limited slip one someday, for better winter performance.

For the vac modulator, it will not know the difference. The gasser gives "actual vacuum" levels, and the diesel simulates it with a vac pump and valve. To the trans its all the same.

Go with the numericaly higher diff

Whichever gives the higher numerically ratio. Scrape the crud off the machined corner at the rear of the of the diff to read the ratio You are going to need all the torque you can find. Use the matching speedo. Cheers Dan

No, the gas diff won't break because of it being diesel. The only reason to mess with the diff is for performance (higher ratio number being more acceleration).
