W124 300D Broke down, wont start !!

Hi All,

Last evening i decided to go to my friends place about 15 miles away, after driving for 5miles the check oil low indication lamp popped up on my instrument cluster, and will not go until another 3 miles ,after which it disappeared, i thought it was a faulty switch or wire grounding somewhere or failed oil level indicator, cause when i checked the oil level before i started, it was exactly between the high and low mark of the oil dip stick and the vehicle was on a flat surface, and she was sitting for about a week. Assuming the entire oil has drained into the pan, now that's good reading.
And I also knew the coolant was leaking from the water pump/coolant pump location all the time and i knew the thermostat o ring also needs to be changed and i always carry coolant to top up or drop some in the expansion tank whenever needed, the time i started i could hear peculiar noise from the right hand side of the engine compartment, where at the right hand bottom front is where the coolant pump or water pump location is ,, i am assuming the noise originates from the pump location /due to failed pump. Why??? Because the temperature shot up unusual to 100, it always is on 80 on mine. OK just when I reached my destination the vehicle stopped oh by the way it’s AT and I can’t push and start, called my friend , and i moved the G selector to N and tried to start the vehicle it starts and goes off, i suspect the fuel its on the last ever marking found on the Meter. I’ll still check!! Now when i reached work today i discussed this with my Technicians they say it’s the seizure of connecting bearing / why??? Oil low level indication lamp popped up and disappeared, could be failed oil pump ...Now what I am I to do??? i would appreciate suggestions/ discussion. If you need photos to be attached I’ll be glad to do that!!

Thank you!!

I have some issue with my Computer so I do cannot see and do not know what the picture is.

While it is certainly a Good habit to check the Oil before you go on a trip it is still pissible for something like an Oil Cooler Hose to develop a leak and for you to lose Oil.
This means that anytime you see a light concerning the Oil Pressure or Oil Level it is a good idea to pull over and check it right now unless it is un-safe to do so.

I do not recall you saying you checked the Oil anytime after the Low Oil Light went on and off.

Even if you have enough Oil the overheating can damage the Engine. You could drain the Oil and see of there is any metal fragments in the Oil of bottom of the Oil Pan.

Starting the Engine and driving the Car with a bad Connecting Rod will just do more damage.

Another issue is that the overheating could have warped the Cylinder head. Check your Coolant to see if there is any Oil Present and when the Oil is drained from the Pan see if there is any Coolant or emulsified Oil/water in the Oil.

I believe your technicians are judging the oil indication light as the oil pressure warning light like in most japanese cars. Your car has the yellow indication that suggests you top up the slight amount of oil that is now low. In my car it will illuminate if the oil is about midway on the dipstick.

The oil pressure gauge is the sweep needle - if that falls to zero while driving or engine running you should be worried (freaking out infact).

Now for your startup problems, You should look into the fuelling side of the equation, can fuel be sucked from the tank to the primary filter?

I should have put up a better picture ill do that, yes I did check several times to see if the vehicle was running on low oil, it was just fine, I still topped up with ah 200ml to 300ml oil making sure it doesn't cross the high level mark on the dip stick, tomorrow I am going to have the sump removed and check for any metal particles and then decide weather or not should I pull off the engine from the frame for further check the possible causes, I still suspect a failed oil pump(Mercedes) can you give me more clarity on that, and the oil strainer.

Yes I am going to drop in 5 litres of fuel and try to start, but I still cant find the reason for the "strange noise" could be in the cylinder compartment may be may be broken ring, scoring noise ???? or or could also be a failed water pump, because temperature was shooting up and was stuck at 100 or 90 I guess, which earlier and all time on mine remained at 80,but the thermostat region o ring leakage could also be one of the reasons for the temperature to go up,how ever "can we suspect the Gear box because its AutoTranny and has Gear safety switch" because I remember shifted the Gear lever to N , and while I slighty moving between N and D the vehicle started, but no sooner went off !!
