617.951 Head Bolt lengths.....Which lenghts go where?

Does anyone know where the long, medium and short head bolts go for sure?

I didn't realize they are different length bolts till it was to late! The guy that is helping me said that it is not a problem....that we will figure it out.

Thank You for any help you can provide!!!
Jim

The longest bolts go through the camshaft "towers"

The middle length ones go next to the camshaft "towers"

The shortest ones... hmmm... I can't remember for sure...

I'm sure someone else will remember!

Before you re-fit the bolts, however, you should be checking the lengths for stretch as specified in the FSM...

...so have you got access to the FSM?

You will figure it out pretty easily. The short ones go outside the valve cover, the medium on the head, and the long through the rocker towers. The 8mm hex go on last.

Blow out the holes with compressed air and tube down them before you put the bolts in. Oil down a hole can hydro lock your tightening and bust a bolt before the bolt head even gets close to its purpose on the head.

FWIW, I chased all the holes on my block with a tap, and then cleaned the holes with brake cleaner and qtips. Took forever, but the head installed with no problems.

Thank You all for your tips and help! I will sleep better tonight with all your wisdom.
I start putting the head back on in the a.m., I am using all new bolts, brass nuts, ect.....The head had two cracks at #2 and #3 pre chamber holes, all new valve guides, new exhaust valves, valve seals and the head was machined .007.....So wish me luck! and again, thank you all for the help!!!
