I agree with vstech, I also think you should change the filter/fluid again, but just know, if it does work correctly after the change, that means that your filter was clogged with clutch and an eventual rebuild or replacement is inevitable.

Once again, I'm not trying to scare you, but I'm also not trying to have you spend a bunch of time searching down the wrong paths. the sooner you can diagnose your problem the sooner you can plan your solution.

More knowledge is more power
good luck to you and please keep us informed with your journey.

vstech - davidlee - Thank-you. I agree, more knowledge helps. Since it has been 40K, I'll change the filter/fluid again. I can't believe it actually was that long ago I had done it.

Scottmcphee - thanks on the turbo boost answer.

I also think (and am hoping) it may have to do with the prior owner having issues with the alda not getting the right pressure because of the overboost valve not working, and adjusting the bowden cable and modulator valve to compensate for this.

I will update after changing the filter/fluid and temps go up.

So far it has been great, but we've only had 1 day in the 80s since making the adjustment.

Just as an update. I finally finished rebuilding the rear suspension on the '87 300D, and have been driving it this the past few days. The temperature has been in the 80's and the transmission hasn't acted up. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the problem was caused by the modulator valve being over adjusted to compensate for the overboost valve not working, hence the turbo not working and no vacuum getting to the alda/

Okay, so the transmission started acting up about month after doing the adjustments, when the temps warmed up. So in July I replaced it with one from the Auto Recyclers. It had 125K on it and was $400. While I was at it, I also put a new torque converter and front seal in and put new o-rings on the dipstick and bowden cable. It works wonderfully, except it has a small leak. I am pretty sure it is coming from whatever is attached to the back of the tranny. The piece has a wires going to it and is bolted to the back, with the bolt having 2 o-rings on it. What is this called and what does it do? I need to know the name of it before I can get the o-rings for it. Also, is it just the o-rings, because it looks like fluid is coming out around the wires going into it.

Oh oh. My trans has had the same symptoms lately. Time to plan for a replacement.
