Voltage regulator question. Pic.
Gents,
Here's a picture of my alternator. I'm guessing that the small box on the left side is the regulator/brush assembly. Compare to this: BOSCH Voltage Regulator,W0133-1626174 - PeachParts Notice the difference in shape? Will it work? 1974 240D. Also, I imagine that I'll have to remove the alternator to swap it out? It looks mighty tough to get to while in the car. It hasn't failed, so it's not critical. But I'm reading about 13 volts or so at the battery. I figure it's tired and could use replacing now as opposed losing it during a summer road trip.

That does indeed look like an external regulator...which would be typical on a 1974 vehicle....
