I was asked via PM about where I got the wastegate actuator for the conversion, thought I'd repost my reply if others are looking to do the project.
I ordered the new pressure controlled wastegate actuator from ATP Turbo (ATP TURBO - The Premiere Provider of Turbocharging Components) phone 510-445-1682. I ordered part number WG-ACT-14PSI-433489-12. Back in 2009 the price was $79. The actuating rod was a little too long, so I had to shorten it a bit and rethread the rod end. You just use your old wastegate actuator as a template and cut the rod to match the original one. On mine, rather than drill/tap a pressure source into the turbo itself, I just ran a piece of tubing from the wastegate actuator to the intake mainfold, where there I installed a tee to pick up the pressure. No need to remove the turbo, it was all accessible from under the car. |

93 300D 2.5 turbo
Hey guy's,
So no one knows if the 91 SDL turbo will fit a 93 2.5? So this afternoon after work I got underway to remove the Turbo for closer inspection and see what a "jackleg can accomplish" and discovered that the vacuum pod/actuator they (A Better wrech) were telling me tat was bad and is no longer available sits directly underneath the turbo and activates the exaust waste gate. What they did to keep me rolling (I guess) was to disconnect the actuator linkage and hold it into position (wide open ?) with a piece of wire (too dark to take and upload pictures Today, will do tomorrow). I also noticed considerable amounts of oil around the INSIDE of the "fresh air" compressor which I believe tells me that the turbo bearings seals are shot? Any guesses from the experts out there on my oil discovery and guess would be greatly appreciated. Also the pod/vacuum actuator is not part of the turbo so it should be replaceable with another/ some other unit of similar shape and size....... Adriano.

That's interesting to hear about ABW. I live close to Chapel Hill and have used them in the past, mostly for parts I needed quick. They always appeared to be top dollar but honest from all I could tell. I'd be interested to hear more of the story on how you have been advised something doesn't exist and they seem to have rigged it up which doesn't sound too good to me. I guess is wired open (meaning rod is retracted on the controller??) it's on all time boost (since the default with the OEM wastegate controller is no boost until vac is applied). I have a parts car out back that has one on it, but no idea on the condition of that part. I wouldn't waste your time going vac, go with the GSXR wastegate mod and switch over to pressure. I have the parts and just waiting to get time to do it myself on my 93. Nothing but excellent reviews on here for the procedure.

93 300D turbo
Thanks Metriclogic, seen your post and went to their WEBsite, but they must've stopped carrying MBz parts WG-ACT-14PSI-433489-12 found no items and when looking at the vehicle specific area no MB
Thanks for the help and I'll keep looking. Adriano P.S. will post picture(s) of the wastegate bypass later this afternoon after I get back from work and take pics. I too was surprised at what I got for a $200 repair bill from ABW.

As I recall, I had to email them to get that specific part. They don't list it on the website.
