Difference in hood pads
Hi
Anyone know do i need to use the hood insulation pad with the heat shield if i don't have a turbo?. I just have the N/A 617 . The pads come with or without a heat shield. one without is a lot cheaper. Thanks |
I'm surprised there is any real cost difference. The foil patch is just that- a foil patch. For my 126 to my knowledge the only oem one available has the foil patch for use on all sedan applications. Check the Peachparts website for availability and price.
None of the pads are really great IMO, but the best choice would be the OEM. I haven't seen any other great options. |
I just bought one from Fast Lane for a 240D, $38. Part# W0133-1714817.
The one with the Heat Shield is W0133-1714816, $66. For your 300D NA, you don`t need the Heat Shield. Charlie |
I thought the heat shield was for 85 cali turbo diesels only. No?
I replaced one last weekend with a febi bilstein part. Not sure if oem, but fit like a glove. |
Replaced mine two years ago. No heat pad and no sign of any deterioration or any effect from turbo heat.

If you have the non turbo 617 the correct pad is without the bling.

hi there charlie. any comments on the quality of the pad you bought? i do need the shielded one, but i'm dithering over whether or not to order it from the dealer.
|
The pad I have is a Febi, and just a black foam rubber. 123-282-00-26.
I have another pad that has the shield I got from PNP. was not glued on very well and almost new. The pad is a foam material, but on the side with the shield, it has a black cloth type material. The stealer will sock it to you. I listed the Fastlane price in my above thread. Charlie |
You can buy an oem hood pad from a variety of online suppliers. You don't have to go to the dealer.

if you guys are satisfied with the non-dealer pads that's good enough for me! thanks for the advice. (i never know how literally to take it when a store says a part is OEM - aren't they likely to be exaggerating the originality of what they sell?)

OEM
As to this "OEM" thing, read through this link, I copied this section from post#83 from the above "exciting news at Peachparts" thread at the top of the page.
Also, there is no such thing as an "OEM" brand. OEM means that the manufacture has at one time been an original equipment manufacturer for Mercedes. For example, that manufacturer may not have made brake discs for Mercedes, but they may have been OEM suppliers for brake sensors. They are an OEM supplier, and they are listed as OEM for all the parts that they sell, since they at one time (or currently) are an OEM supplier to Mercedes for some parts. Sometimes we have the information on which suppliers were the actual OEM supplier for a particular part - we mark that in our catalog where possible. We have a neat FAQ page that I wrote on this subject to try to quell some of the confusion: Pelican Parts - Comparison of Available Shipping Options This should explain help explain what all this is. Charlie |
thanks, charlie! good link.
