1995 E300D OEM 8 hole wheels -correct stamping on inside of wheels?

Hi everyone,

Would someone who has the OEM 8 hole wheels please confirm what is stamped on the inside of their wheel (possibly the spare as it is relatively easy to get to).

There is some confusion on my dads car. It appears he has two different wheels in his set and neither may be correct.

Two are 7 JX15 CH TSW and the other two are 6 1/2 JX15 H2 ET 48 and the spare is a steel wheel.

Thank you

My new-to-me 1995 E300D has, AFAIK, the original cast 8-hole wheels. The identifying marks are cast as part of, not stamped into, the wheels. They are Ronals made in Canada, Mercedes part #124 401 18 02, size 6-1/2 Jx15 H2, ET 44.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for that. You are correct in that my numbers are part off the casting and not stamped.

Is it possible that the factory sent cars out with different wheels/offsets maybe?

Anyone else know what their wheels are? I figure if we end up getting another set of wheels then it probably should be the correct ones that came with the car.

Jeremy, do you know if offset 44 was the correct type for the later w124's: I always thought it was 48.

Exactly same wheels on mine except the say made in Germany. These wheels have a nasty clearcoat that yellows and flakes off - makes the wheels look real bad. - To date I have not found a decent wheel place that can refinish them to factory finish.

My '95 has the same problem. The factory machined the outer surface of the wheels and then clearcoated them. Looks great until the clearcoat ages. Japanese motorcycle manufacturers used to do the same thing with their engines and got the same long-term results. The only reasonable fix is to paint them.

Benedict, it is highly unlikely that the factory shipped a car with mismatched wheels but something might have happened at the dealership. Your research into what cars might have had your wheels would be valuable. It's possible that whoever did the swap didn't even notice the difference.

Offset indeed varies over the W124 model run. Early 124s (like my '87 300D Turbo) have ET49 15-hole painted wheels. OTOH, my '95 E300D has ET44 8-hole clearcoated wheels. The later W210 models started off with painted 10-hole ET41 holes. AFAIK, the 8-hole ET44 wheels are the correct ones for your car, unless someone knows of a manufacturer-approved alternative that was offered as an option at the time of purchase.

Jeremy
