Best Way to Service W115 Speedometer Cable?

My new to me '75 W115 300D is making a ticking sound coming from the speedometer housing - best way to service/lubricate this cable? Has anyone done this recently? Thanks!

Is the odometer working? If not it might be coming from that being stuck.

I've done this on a 190D I had that the speedometer was slowly stopping working. I detached the cable and sprayed white lithium grease in it, screwed it back together and amazing fixed the problem! I'd give that a try

I fixed one by removing both ends of the cable. Then dropping in some lube and turning the inner cable by hand until the lube started coming out the other end under the car. Did this until the drips stopped more or less, then reconnected everything. Worked like a charm.
