BC Benzes?!!
What is it with the Mercedes up here in BC??
So far I've been offered a turbo W123 , 400km!, with completely rusted out drivers side floorboards and lots of ugly fender rust for $1500...Completely unsafe vehicle with a @^$@#^$ ejector seat! And then there was a 80 300D, all the doors completely rusted out, rusted exhaust, drive train sounding like it was full of marbles 300km also for $1500 Both these cars were originally selling for upwards of $2500!! They were supposed to be deals at $1500!! I wonder if there's any decent benzes up here for a price that actually reflects their age and condition???? |

I buy cars from low-rust areas. I tried to deal with BC sellers several times but gave up. Not only are they overpriced but the vendors are, to put it mildly, unhelpful, evasive and worse. I always end up bringing cars from the US, even though it's much more expensive and the paperwork can be a bit nerve-wracking. Hell if you want another Benz at that price point you can have my '78 300cd for $2,000. It has rust in the floor but not that bad. Or if you want a 300sd a friend has my old one, nearly rust free but sruffy (originally brought from California), with a brand new rebuild IP for $1,500. There will always be rusty old w123 everywhere. Nature of the design. Pics in online ads are usually useless as much of the rot is underneath (though by this point I don't need to tell you that, right?) You have to be patient, or prepared to buy long-distance like I do. Edit/addition: for reference, I shopped for about eight months before I found my first 300sd. It was an California car that was left to a relative who lived near me. You have to stay in the game an keep looking all the time.

You've just got to hunt for a while. It took me about 2-3 months of going out and seeing 1 or 2 cars every weekend. Some I walked away from before the owner even came out of his house. People crazy over value them. But people pay it, so the cycle continues.... You won't find a nice one find less that $2000 in BC....If I was going to sell mine I'd list it for $4000 and take $3500. Crazy? yes, but I think I could get it up here.... Anyways keep looking, you'll find something, good luck and don't get too discouraged...
