recheck the return lines all the way...sounds like air issue
I don't think it's an air issue. All the lines are tight and the primary filter is full of fuel, only a tiny bubble in there.

Biodiesel300TD you are a GENIUS. My friend says I should bake you a pie.

It is a faulty ignition shut-off valve. I blocked off the vacuum line going to it from the main line, and not only is it starting and driving fine, the heater started working! It hasn't worked since I got the car!

Having trouble finding a writeup on ignition assembly removal.

What's involved in this? Anyone know of a good link?

EDIT:
Spoke too soon. Found the writeup on dieselgiant. But my key still works so I don't have to mess with grinding the pin down

Glad I could help! You can stop by with that pie anytime, apple or cherry would be good.

You shouldn't have to remove the whole ignition to get the shut-off valve off. It's a tight job, but I've done it without removing the ignition.

I'm actually not that great of a baker, but maybe I'll swing by with some chicken soup sometime

So just remove the instrument cluster and under-dash panel to get to it?
What about the engine continuing to crank after turning the ignition off? That was why I was considering swapping the whole thing.

Do you mean it continues to run after you shut it off, or the starter is still engaged after you let off the key during starting. If it's continuing to run after being shut off it's a vacuum leak, that could be cause by a bad shut-off valve on the IP or several other leaky components. It it's the later than it could be an ignition problem, or just some worn or bare wires touching at the plug.

The starter is still engaged after I turn off the key during starting. Only happens when it won't start, and only sometimes.
Guess I should inspect the wires and only replace the whole assembly if they look fine ?
