Thanks Bill I just put a new double outlet aftermarket muffler on the rear, and what I was worried about was noise if I welded a straigh pipe in place of the double jobber in the center .so will give it a try......

My exhaust sytem was shot when I bought my car. The MB replacement resonator and muffler were way too much for me. I took my car to a muffler shop and had new pipe(2.25") with a Flowmaster 2 chamber deltaflow muffler in place of the resonator and a regular run of the mill muffler out back. I'm very happy. It sounds really cool! Kind of a sporty diesel sound, and it only cost about $130. andy

For an old benz, custom exaust is the only way to go. I dont see the need for two huge heavy mufflers. When mine fails its getting a custom straightpipe, and if its too loud i'll add a small generic muffler. The shop quoted me $40 per hour it takes them to do the work, and this guy lets me watch him work, help out. ect. So I know its done right.

You forget that when the wastegate opens you usually get quite a growl. These turbos arent vnt's. The sound probably wont bother me, though. I like loud cars as long as its within reason.
