Ok I straightened the sender with pliers. I cleaned it up and tested it as well. I followed somebodys instruction from peachparts. The floater now moves freely. I'm going to run the tank empty now. I'll be on my laptop in my car.

Strange how the shaft is bent and not any damage to the tube.

Yeah, I have been reading too many of these sender, tank screen threads lately and getting confused. Charlie |
There aren't any really large dents on the bottom of your tank are there? Hammering it to oblivion might have been a contender for the bent shaft, but maybe not based on you pre-existing symptoms.
I'd continue to watch miles driven along with the fuel gauge, if the shaft was bent it may be easier for the float to get hung up and not register accurately. |
Maybe an odd observation: what are the chances someone tried to force a sedan sender into a wagon tank and bent it while tightening? There's some evidence of the aluminum tube being torn at the top; so the metal rod bends as the tube rotates...
The wagon sender is supposed to be a little bit shorter, isn't it? Got a part number off that sender? |
I was in a Sears yesterday, and the 1 13/16 socket is $25.00.
Hit the swap meets and flea markets for tools. think I paid like $8 for mine. Charlie |
Very interesting Yak! I will look at the part number but if it was too long, wouldn't the sender just not go all the way in?
I finished the tank screen guys. As always, I truly appreciate all the help. You guys are amazing. |
