87 300TD went up a mountain region... quite surprised with power!!!
 

I'm a happy camper!!! Took my 300TD up Baguio, a mountain city 4,900 ft above sea level. No problems with power whatsoever. :)

Didn't have problems overtaking before the ascent... probably cleared much of the carbon making the ascent quite easy. Faster in fact compared to our 2000 F150 4.2 V6... Could actually feel the torque... didn't need to rev the engine much compared to the Ford. :)

or as the locals call it ( Mudville ) Not alot of vegetation up there
Highest city in the US over 10,000 feet up. top of the Rockies
mine did great then I took it up Independence pass to Aspen.
Hardly any loss of power
I wish they had made as many 0m602-603 engines in America
as they did the 617

When we drove up to 5000 ft in my OM617 I was pleasantly surprised too. I'm sure the OM603 would be stellar since it has more power.

We went up to escape the heat in the city. Staying for 2 weeks to recharge the kids (yup, don't know what i'm getting myself into... haha)

Heat as in hot temps... i'm no fugitive. :)

I forgot, it's already April (summertime there).

How cold is it now over there in Baguio?

Just 21° C... daytime... gets A LOT colder at night. Still, no problems starting her cold... well, this is the coldest she's ever gonna experience that's for sure.

I know Baguio and I know the road to get up there. I live near santa Fe and it is over 7000 ft above sea level. I take it regularly to the Santa Fe Ski area or Sandia peak 10350 and 10670 respectively and don't really observe any loss in power. The turbo in diesels actually help with altitude. When I was winter camping about 2 months ago, my 300D started with no block heater after 2 glow plug cycling when it was -8 F or -22 C at about 9000 ft. I do use Bosch glowplug sand good batteries and I bought the highest rated for the size

Sounds great! Let's do a convoy when my wagon gets out of the shop. How was your temp? Did it get hot during the ascent?

Took my '81 up to Sunrise on Mount Rainier, a couple times -- 6,400 feet. When I got to the top I'd let it idle for a while before shutting it down, because the turbo would be hot from making boost all the way up. Coolant temp would go from about 80C to 85C, but then it's never very hot up there. ;)

I did both when I picked up my current driver in aurora--with a plugged switchover line. camped at a cool spot at twin lakes and then again at a great trout stream 15 miles north of woodland park.

That drive up independence pass was like nothing I had ever seen before. also the Colorado rivers' Glenwood canyon on I 70 Headed back to Oregon, Oh man, nothing like it.
I come from north west Oregon [Portland] low altitude and I love my town, so does my car, where green vegetation runs plenty and a ton of beautiful landscapes such as the Columbia river gorge and the Oregon coast line down Hwy 101, cool crisp air for the turbo to breathe, but I think that Colorado trip topped that. No pun intended.
