81 300sd Italian Tuneup time

I have my new set of injectors with fresh pop tested bosio nozzle.... I am going to change them out this weekend... From what i understand i should probably have new fuel lines for the injectors mine seem to be weeping already.

I also need a 8mm wrench, 17mm wrench, and a 22mm socket.
Does it need to be a certain depth socket or just a deep socket?

what is the 1 1/16" wrench for... I was using the diesel giant site for tips but seems to not have all the information that i need.

Fuel line sizes are 3mm?

I have new heat shields and will do the glow plugs at the same time.

any other tips would be awesome...

A quick trip to H freight will take care of the tools you need. Take an injector with you and confirm the deep socket will work.

Fuel lines are 3.2mm or 1/8". Dont use vacuum line !!

No parts store in Laguna carries the fuel line so i got it from the dealer at 17 bucks a meter.... And so far i have yet to find a deep enough socket for the injector... they all seem to be to short.

the injector takes a 27mm deep socket

I picked up a large deep metric socket set from ebay. 27mm was included and it works fine. Craftsman.

My closest HF is about 60 miles one way. Northern Tool is about 50 rt but they are a joke.

:oIf you go the Craftsman route for the socket. the #47532, and is a thin wall with the room the injector needs.
This socket also works for the crank nut on the front of the engine to rotate the engine by hand when you are doing your valve adjustments.

You can get the injector return line from NAPA. and if there is a VW performance shop they have it also. remember the Rabbits and the jetta diesels? If the counter Jock has a pimply face, may not have a clue what you are asking, you know, the deer in the head lights look. :icon_eek:

If you have a reamer for the Glow Plug holes, would be good to run it in to cut out any built up carbon.

Most of Harbor Fright stuff is usually thicker because of the low quality metal the chicoms use.

But then......... I bought a set of 3/8 impact sockets during a weak moment. :o

I was in a PNP and noticed a set of the oil filter lid nuts still on a 617 engine. used my 3/8 Chraftsman chrome handle 10" ratchet, and a deep 13mm. nuts wer on pretty tight, and gave it a heave ho, and cracked the socket on 3 sides. these socket have never been used with an air gun.

Then later on, I came across a wheel on a MB and used my 18" braker bar and a HF 17mm deep socket, and cracked it .

A couple of days ago I made a run to the JY. On my list was to snag a set of injectors. Based on what I read on the forums the Craftsman 27mm deep socket was a god one to get. Unfortunately the local Sears didn't have one so I went to plan B an got a 1-1/8 deep socket and it worked fine.

27mm is 1.06299 inch compared to 1.06250 for the SAE version - apparently close enough.

I found that the only socket i could get to fit was the craftsman 1 1/16" or 22mm socket..... It cost 11 bucks at sears.... The harbor freights were to wide and the husky, autozone, oreilly, and pep boys brand were to shallow and hit the barbs.

Ibenz,
I am not far from you, up in Foothill Ranch.
I got some of the 3mm hose from Mesa Performance a couple of years back.

If you purchase in-store, Sears will ship to your home for free if they don't have it in stock
