Yep I've got the laser temp gauge for shooting the pan.

Never could get the temp up to 85 celcius. Maybe 65 celcius after about 30 miles. Ambient temp out was low 60 degrees Fahrenheit I presume.

Running, in park with transmission up to operating temperature.

OK, and I've found a chart deciphering the points between 25 & 85 Celcius.

Will get it dialed in today hopefully.

Fluid actually looked pretty good for 50,000 or so miles. Way better than my maiden voyage of changing back around 78,000 when I bought it.

I really don't think a temperature check is that important. As long as you get it up to operating temp, not just the coolant, but the ATF, then I think that 80° is what operating temperature is. Your 30 miles might be enough. I usually try to check mine after a much longer drive if I remember. Someone also mentioned that there was a bulletin out to ignore the low temperature mark and only use the 80° mark.

It's a common misconception that driving if the way to get to temp. But there is no thermostat on the AT, and the radiator can cool the fluid very well while you are driving.

All that is required is a short drive to warm up the engine, then just let it idle. With a minimal amount of air passing through the radiator the fluid temp can reach 80c (not 85) fairly quickly. If you are outside on a cold day you may have to block part of the radiator with cardboard.

I wondered about that, so I'll have to give that a go tomorrow evening. Shifts better already, but not sure if I'm a little low or if a tad over.
