Replacing Shocks and Speedo Cable - '78 300D

I need to replace my speedo cable and shocks in a 78 300D. Can I do it in my driveway using jack stands, or is a lift required?
Reading up in old posts, I see the cable should be lubed with graphite.
Cables that I have seen online come complete with the outer housing. Are they pre-lubed?
It sound like Biltstien shocks are the way to go. Will I be able R+R easily enough without lifting the car?

You should have no problem doing the shocks with a jack and stands. can't say about the spedo cable.. no personal experience with that.

You can do both jobs in the driveway.
You will need a 12 point socket and or a 12 pt box wrench for the lower shock bolts. upper bolts are a 17mm.

The spedo cable is held in the transmission by one 10mm bolt. remove bolt and pull cable out. there are 2 plastic clips to remove on the cable that keeps it from flopping around while driving. squeeze them to remove.

Pull out the instrument cluster, and unscrew the cable, the pull it out through the engine side.

the cables come lubed already, and they don`t come apart for additional lubing.

Be sure to have the vehicle well secured on stands. You will have to remove the front wheels. for the lower shock bolts.

Thanks! I will look for a 12 pt socket, is it a star type fastener? Or is that the 12 pt will give more bite? I need to take a peek down there.

The head of the bolt looks like a star.
I failed to mention, to use a 10mm 12pt socket. those lower one`s are a pain to get to.
