Update on W126 350SDL trailer hitches

I have seen a few online and they seem all to be bumper hitches. I would think that there's a frame hitch possible somehow, or something reinforced beyond a bumper hitch.

The OM606 3.5 liter has some guts and can pull.

Curious why MB never took it farther.

Does any 350SDL owner have a trailer hitch and if so, what is your experience?

thanks!

I'm betting there were Euro hitches. wouldn't a hitch for a 126SD work? I think there are pictures of some on here. My recollection is that there's a picture of a 126 SD pulling a double axle car trailer with a car on it.

I made one for my 126 and it looks nice. I used the hitch for the 300td and with a lot of cutting - welding it works. There are drawings and an explanation of how I did it on here somewhere just look. The 126 did not have the suspension to handle the load of a trailer with stuff in the trunk, it just bottomed out and that was that. The 300td has the hydraulic suspension to handle the load, that is why they do not sell the hitch to fit a 300d when it will with no modification.
Good luck
Robert
