Rain deflector and cabin air vent removal
I'm getting ready to have my '83 300D repainted, and would like to remove the rain guides on each side of the windshield, and more importantly, the air deflectors at the front of the rear pillars. There is no hint of the procedure in the Body manual. Anyone have any ideas, or should I leave them alone?

There are 4 fastners that hold the vents on along the front. Using a small punch, tap out the center pins. they will drop down inside the vent. then with a small blade screwdriver loosen the fastner and it will lift out.
Lift up on the forward edge of the vent, and slide it out. there are 4 flats that hold the windshield side down. Retrieve the 4 pins that were punched out. one might go down the large rubber vent tube, or pull the tube out to fish it out of the drain area. To reuse the fastners, place the center pin in the square part and tap it home. To remove the rain gutter, there are 4 small screws along the windshield edge. then with a piece of wood, gently tap off the gutter towards the rear. My FSM only shows removal of the Coupe. but shows a wood caulking tool #123 589 01 59 00 for installation. looks to have a "V" groove to fit over the gutter to tap it back on. Charlie

Thanks for your quick answer. I found only three screws on each side of the windshield. Not removing them is not a real obstacle on a repaint. The vents I would like to remove are behind the fixed glass on the rear doors, where the air exhausts the passenger compartment. They're just above the removable bezel between the roof and the rear quarter.

Persistence prevails again. They are held in by three clips that can be released with a small screwdriver.
