treasure trove of MB parts found in oregon

kent bergsma apparently came across a warehouse full of NOS mb parts owned by an old mb mechanic. no word yet as to what's going to happen but there's gotta be lots of unobtainable parts in there. there were dozens of complete 617 engines as well.

What a find! It sounded to me like Kent was going to find some way to sell it all... One can only hope...

Considering who is doing the selling, nothing will be cheap!

I like Kent and he benefits greatly by making things easy for those who do not research/shop around/ and or have the skills. That being said -being a business person, he will most likely buy the whole lot and see a return on his investment just as any business person would do. I am very curious about what he found there!

yeah. it probably won't be cheap, but still cheaper than if those parts were still being made by MB and sold at the dealer.

I like Kent as well. When I first got started with MBs four years ago, reading through the forums was sometimes a nightmare. I hadn't figured out whose advice to trust and pretty much every topic has 10 different opinions on it.

Kent provides a central place to get parts and detailed instructions on the more common DIY-able tasks. And his prices aren't all that bad. A lot of people on here get bent out of shape over a few bucks.

We all can get the same right here, just takes wading through a lot more stuff to get it.

I agree and would go one step further with respect to your last sentence.

First, while the basic technical details may be here, sometimes those posting are so far ahead of some of us, in terms of their wrenching experience and skill level, that despite best efforts the descriptions leave out details that we need. I personally don't like even starting a job if I'm not comfortable with the instructions.

Bergsma's technical instructions are clear and generally understandable by those with low-level wrench skills.

Second, there is a lot of information on this site. That's a mixed blessing. There is, unfortunately, a LOT of bad information in with the good. Also some jobs are described in words only. Some of us need pictures

Also, not everyone is interested in dealing with Internet forums such as this one. I wasn't until I found this site. I used to prefer the traditional email list format groups (with archives). Now I see the benefits of a BB.

I have read some of the rants here against Bergsma and I'm not particularly impressed by the issues being raised. I have only ever seen one actual allegation of him not delivering what was promised, and in that case we were only hearing one side of the issue.

Concerning his prices, well there are lots of different pricing setups out there. I have bought a couple of his 'packages' and was very happy with the combo pricing.

If you don't like how he does things, go somewhere else. But slagging his business model isn't helpful or justified. (Frankly I think he's bloody good at what he does.)

Those cast aluminum parts for the water pump housing aren't really aluminum... they're silver painted gold.

I finally got the video to work. Even if he can do a deal, it will take weeks of full-time effort to catalog what is in there. It's insane.

Those cabinets are incredible, with everything so neatly arranged. I haven't seen anything like that outside of a race team.

At the scale of his operation it would take years to sell that off, unless he packages large lots and shops grab them up.
