What is my 240D worth?

I'm thinking of selling my old 240D... I am no gearhead and any repairs, even standard, are getting too expensive for me to keep justifying for a car I drive so infrequently.

1979 240D. Bought new by my father. 195k miles, engine now was put in 5 years ago and was completely rebuilt, has about 45k on it. Done by European Motorcars in Ft. Worth. Belts hoses with that engine are new. Have a slew of service records from over the years. Original owner manual as well.

Car has been in garage basically it's whole life, which was spent in CA, PA for a few years, TX and last 3 in DC (covered while outside in DC). Paint is original and looks great. Turns right on and runs great. Some squeal from belts at low speed but it goes away. AC runs OK but not ice cold. Only one small crack in the dash.

Sky blue exterior, navy blue MB Tex interior. Really fantastic shape inside and out. All original parts, never been in even a fender bender. It pains me to think of parting with the car, but I am moving back to TX and it is $900 just to ship, and then I need the following for sure:

Needs - engine mounts at some point, rear window seal also at some point. Dome light has a small crack.

Tires are brand new, but nothing fancy, HP something from Merchant tire. They have about 750 miles on them. Newish spare in the trunk too.

I was curious for some ballparks, I realize I don't have pics on here, just wondering before I post for sale on here and/or ebay.

Standard or automatic ? May affect the sale price a little. Drop me a private message when you get a price in mind if you wish. Looking for one for my son in law. He would also take good care of it.

Sounds like a good parts car, I'll give you $500 for it.

Just kidding. I think the automatic tranny is going to keep your price below $3k. I sold a really nice '78 240D 4spd out here in California for $2600. It had very high miles but was driven and taken very good care of by one owner for 26 years.

I would say $3000 is a good starting point without seeing pictures.

I think the difference between automatic and manual will or would be pretty substantial. I would say $2000.00 to $2500.00 for a well kept high mileage automatic and $3500 to $4500 for a good running 4 speed.

My 80 240D, 4-spd manual, was free, and I probably have $1800.00 into her so far.

I'd think it was the other way round -- most Americans don't even know how to drive a real car. PS - they're both "4 speeds", technically.

May be true elsewhere, not in the 240D market. A 64 hp automatic equipped 4 dr sedan is simply too slow! The 4 spd at least makes it somewhat bearable.

I sold my '79 240D 4 speed, 160k miles a couple years ago for $2k.
