1991 350SDL, 355,000 kms. Dunlop SP9000 Tires at 32psi all round, haven't looked at my air filter in ages (changing it today), probably 60/40 hwy/city. No additives, EGR still connected, daily driving conditions (that includes traffic)

I get an astonishingly consistent 22 mpg. I've have once seen 26mpg, but it is quite amazing how I always seem to get 22. This is over 20+ tanks.....

Oh, I almost forgot. I was towing a 3500lb. 1982 380 SEC the whole way.
what kind of MPG do you see normally with that setup? (OM606 in a w126) Also, which trans are you running?

OK, I'm ALMOST ready to post my figures.
I've got 4 fill ups in the car, I'm awaiting the 300ish miles to tick off for the last fill for the evaluation.
I found a stretch of highway between stops, I went from mile marker 40 to mile marker 21,
24.9 and rolling to mile 43.9 and rolling... looks pretty much dead on to me, no?

My average is pretty low totaled over the 5 fills, when I first got the car, there was a LOT wrong. looks like mileage began around 26, dropped to 24 before I changed the oil, and filters, and cleaned out the banjo, and now it's climbing up towards 30... not there yet, but I'm doing a lot of mixed driving with a FULLY loaded down car here...

Been there--done that. I was new to the car, so it ran out about 1 mile later. Primed on the side of the road, in the dark, in winter--very cold.
Mistake will not be repeated.

Brian, is it discouraging to see how few can follow your rules?

Mine is off the road currently for repaint, and odo, so no admissible figures, but if I may be allowed--I remember seeing 25-28 mpg pretty regularly. I keep speeds pretty much within the legal limits--so 65/70 is about the highway max. Your posted numbers seem reasonable based on my experience.

Not really a surprise.

I set the parameters so that the perpetual inaccuracies of the fill, the odometer, and the long highway trip can be eliminated. There was a method to the madness of the rules.

Most won't comply. Their data can be dismissed.

It took me 10 years to get the SD to the condition where it can crack 30 mpg on a regular basis. A long slow slog of changing a bunch of little things and a change in driving habits (reducing speed by 5 mph).

I also believe the extended use of Powerservice has a small benefit.

heh, I'm thinking of starting over with the logging... great another 1200ish miles before chiming in on this.

I'm using the car for WORK at the moment, and it's REALLY taking a pounding.
wednesday, I had a 300lb compressor in the front seat, two 40lb R22 cylinders, 3 90lb nitrogen cylinders, 4 toolboxes full of tools, around 100lbs each... reclaimer, reclaim cylinder, vacuum pump... scale, parts, blah blah... and me and my brother... around 2000 lbs total I'd guess...

OT, but why aren't you using one of your SLS equipped cars for all that junk?

All that weight will negatively impact your results.

Unfortunately, I do believe you'll now need to wait until early October to perform the challenge. Doing the tests under the load of the a/c compressor will defeat any achievements that you have accomplished.

I would not bother with any data that is a/c compromised. I certainly could not attain 30 mpg with the a/c in operation.

fixing the a/c is last on my list right now.

and the strangest thing is, my best mileage numbers are from the tank with all the load in it...
all these totals are with the windows 1/2 down, and the sunroof slightly to 1/2 open.

Not a SD but since vstech posted his numbers, I guess I should chime in...

I've lost the actual log that I had when I was driving my 87dt daily, but the numbers were so consistent that I can post them with confidence:

167K, fresh fluids/filters, bb in EGR, 32-ish psi all around, WWII era tires, odometer checked with GPS, burping tank to the brim at every fueling. Mostly city driving, light throttle = 28-29 MPG.

Fuelly is a lot more convenient and easy to follow than this thread. Its an excellent tool if you want to keep track of real world FE and compare to other cars.
