83 300D.. Bowden Cable Problem....

Hi All,
I did a search regarding what might have happened to my Bowden Cable when I had to dis-mount it to replace my starter. My search did have some info but nothing about what might have happened to it as it is now very tight (shorter?). I had to take the cable back off when I got the car back together since it wasn't letting my throttle move very much. My question is: what might have happened to the cable when all I did was un-mount it and move it out the way for better access to the stater? The end of the cable still has a working adjustment capability. It seems like it may have slipped back into the tram. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance for the wealth of knowledge everyone shares on this site!
Chris
