The IP was bought from EBAY. I was told that the car was running, and something went through the radiator, and fried the engine. I cant say for sure he is telling the truth. I have heavily questioned whether or not the new IP is bad or good. The symptoms are exactly the same after replacing the IP, that is why I (and the mechanic) started looking elsewhere. It is possible that the IP is bad.
My certs are for gasoline engines.
To the best of my memory, the mechanic told me it was 18lbs. going into the IP
I have checked the strainer inside the tank. blown through the primary filter, replace the secondary filter. bypassed the mechanical fuel pump with an electrical one. We are definitely getting plenty of fuel to the injector.

The Benzbin has a cranks sensor Mercedes Parts - Mercedes Benz Parts - Discount Prices - crankshaft position sensor - 1987 Mercedes Benz 300D Crankshaft Position Sensor

someone on ebay has one Mercedes OM603 Crankshaft Position Sensor 1986-1987 300D 300TD diesel | eBay

I dont know how much volume, but I took off a fuel line at #1 injector, and there isnt much there at all. I have heard that these 'can' be difficult to prime. I often wonder if that is the problem. THe mechanic told me he had 4lbs coming out of the IP, but I didnt ask him where he checked it at, or how much volume.
I am fairly confident that something failed while driving down the road and shut off the fuel. or the IP failed, and I have a bad replacement IP, or it needs to be purged after replacing the IP.
My purpose in starting this post was to see is someone could assist me in finding out if something that controls the fuel flow through the IP is not functioning. Once I am satisfied that everything is working right, and I have the system purged, I will have to bite the bullet and buy another IP, or scrap the car.
Does anyone have a 'known good' IP that they would be willing to sell to me??

a common failure on the IP's is the fuel shutoff valve...

The lever moves up and down as it should when I turn the key off/on. I changed the shutoff about 6 months ago. The new IP came with a different shutoff, and I questioned that, and swapped the shutoff between the 2 IPS.
Since the Shut off lever is working, I dont think it is the shut off.

I agree, but there aren't many other things that can limit fuel into the IP... if it's not the shutoff... it's the IP.

If you are willing to do that, I would appreciate it.
Please let me know. Do you have any idea when you might get a chance to try it? I also would need a tool to lock the IP when I install it. I am not crazy about buying a new one that I probably will only use once. Do you know anyone that has a used one, or how to make a tool??

While there is a crank sensor, a missing or inop one will not prevent the engine from running. It is only for the tach and the idle control. The engine will idle, but you would be unable to adjust how fast using the control in the engine compartment. Mine idles somewhere around 600rpm if the idle control is inop IIRC.

I got the car home, and discovered 3 problems.
1. the IP was not primed
2. The IP was not timed right
3. The replacement IP was bad.

I bought another IP, installed it myself. Car runs good now.
