124 Fog lens damage repair!

Do your lenses look like this?

this was my GOOD one! the bad one looks BETTER than this one now...

I'm not finished yet, but the preliminary results are great.

I highly doubt I'll have it looking as good as a new one, but it looks better than this!

SUPER GLUE!

I bought a 5 oz tube of the stuff, and slowly dribbled it into the heavily cracked and crazzed lens and WOW does it look better.
my plan is to fill in all the cracks, totally coat the entire lens and then try polishing compound, or sand paper. get it super smooth on the outside. (I know nothing will be done for the cracks that are on the inside...

I love how it fills in the surface cracks, and even the deep cracks.

oh, I don't know... I like the satisfaction of making something work. and the glue is only 5.00 and does both lenses...
the hassle of changing them is worth it to me, to try and fix them up.
I may not bother polishing them, it all depends on how it looks as is...

That's weird... I expected the cyanoacrylate to cloud up the plastic. What type of super glue is it?

There are guys on ebay who sell tubes of stuff the does that. I think they want about $30. You may have uncovered their little money making scam.
Have you tried acetone? I suspect that it may be the solvent in the super glue that is melting the rough plastic surface & allowing it to dry smooth.
I dont like your chances sanding the surface. You will probably just scratch it.
When you get real good at it, you could try calling by a local car yard that has a car with dull lights, do 1 of a cars lights for free & ask $100 to do the other to make them match. Good luck with it John !

The question is what happens after the new super glue surface has been subjected to heat and UV rays for a while, it may end up looking even worse.

I've had good luck with those headlight restoration kits and a lot of sanding. It's a lot of work but John ain't scared of work
