82' 300d alternator adjustment bolt seized
The alternator seized up on my 82' 300d. I have an 84 300d for a parts car with a good alternator ( I hope ). My problem is that I can't get the adjustment bolt to budge on the 82'. I have the bottom bolt nearly off ( not sure that it needs to come all the way out ), and the nut on the adjustment bolt is off but the bolt wont budge. Any suggestions on what to do about this? I can't even get the alt. to move so I can get the belts out of my way. Any help is appreciated.
I should add that I have the adjusting rod/nut bent out of the bracket but the big bolt with the bushing won't move. Thanks

Anyone out there? The bolt is still seized and I am getting ready to take a jack hammer to it. Really, I am about to start taking the car apart so I can get a torch and a hammer on the bolt. I would prefer not to but don't know what else to do. Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks

Id be soaking it in a penetrating fluid of some kind. Take a closer look at your donor and see if there are any openings you can get a bigger tool in there.
My adjuster is simply what looks like a bolt coupler and it works great. I cant think of a reason of why its locked up unless someone used a thread sealer on it.

I have the adjuster free but the big bolt ( connected to adjuster ) that goes through the alternator won't budge. The adjuster just bends with out the bolt moving.

please explain what you are trying to do.
are you wanting it tighter? do you want to loosen everything to get the belts off? I always loosen the three bolts from the back of the alternator first. then the alt, and bracket are able to move easily. if the wrong belt in on there, tightening will be difficult.

To remove the alternator on my car there is just a bottom bolt that goes through the alt and the top bolt with the adjuster on it. The alternator seized so I was replacing it with one from a parts car. I ended up cutting the adjuster part of the bolt off so I could get a wrench on it. Then with lots of torch and hammer work it finally came out. That was the most difficult alternator project ever. I can replace the alt. on my truck in 10 minutes.

if you are not loosening the third bolt that attaches the upper bracket to the block, you will have great difficulty loosening the alternator...

The third bolt holding the bracket to the block is stripped. The main problem was the adj. bolt was rust/welded into the bracket.

Sounds like in your case the whole shaft of the larger portion of the adjusting Bolt could benefit from a coating as well as the threads.
