The w116 300sd
The 300Sd w116 engines need to be lifted at the same extreme angle as the 300D. It is a relatively simple engine to remove with the transmission attached. I for one would not disconnect the transmission to pull the engine alone way to much work. The hardest part by far is removing the top flex plate bolt but after pulling a few engines we started to jack up the rear end and Turing the rear wheels till there was better access to the bolt it is still a pain though they are very tight. You have to use great care removing the oil cooler lines or you will ruin the threads. The shocks can be a pain to remove but other than that I think it is a real straight forward removal and the after market manuals cover it very well.

Breckman,
How did you jump the timing chain without breaking the cam towers? Or did you? P E H |

interference
just had my 82 240 engine rebuilt at my favorite machine shop. when he reassembled the engine it would interfere and not turn over. i believe that he had to just remove the injectors and put in a bigger spacer. when he milled the head the injectors now stuck a little past the head surface just enough to hit the piston. i may be wrong the spacers may have been for the prechambers... yes i believe that was it, anyway it was solved without taking the head off. did you mill the head?
