Thats a beautiful coupe, Ern. I came a hairsbreadth from buying the identical car (maybe - the one I was looking at was a 1982 300CD with 157000 miles on it for $4200 Canadian dollars) and I regret not buying it. Oh well, the sedan is eminently useful.
I have to ask...your wheels look great. Is that paint or did you have them bead blasted &/or polished?

Nice!! It doesn't get better than that!
Two W12x coupes!

If I could pair two MB's.. I'd to the same..
hehehe... W123 & W124.
My dream would probably be..
5-Speed 280CE Euro (W123) - with all options
E500 (W124) - nuf said..

or..
300CE/E320 Sportline w/ 5-Speed
280CE w/ 5-speed (W123)

Y'know; I have to say that the 123 body style lends itself to a sedan styling. (and wagons) No, I'm not knocking coupes, its
just that If I was going to get a two door Mercedes it would be the SL model. Yeah, I know, I know - they aren't diesels...
I'll keep my 300. Its an amazing and soul-satisfying car. If I had money fall into my lap I would seek out a 350SL with a 5 speed as the stablemate to the 300D. I have always wanted a sporty coupe with a removable hardtop, that had enough power to get me in trouble. But that's not a good idea just now; I have a few more demerit points to melt before I get a sporty car, if I was smart. I'll be driving the diesel for a while, as its sedate and definitely not a cop-magnet. Four Doors sure are handy.

Ducati, thanks. That picture was right after it was totaled. You're just seeing the undamaged side. If you look close you'll see the trunk lid isn't completely shut. The other rear quarter panel was crunched really bad. The insurance paid me off and I bought it back for $500. We're on the road to recovery. Won't be long and he'll be back in tip top shape. He hasn't missed a lick all along, he even towed my wifes "Piece of Jeep" home right after the wreck! Then my son drove it while his truck was in the shop. And my daughter took it to San Jose while I had her 190E waiting on a new ignition tumbler.
Those wheels are now on the SD. They were the original wheels and I had them polished. I've since had two more sets polished for Bleu , one set was stolen off the freight truck on the way back from the polisher, the other set just got back on ole Bleu .
By the way, thats what I paid forBleu ($4200) about five years ago. It's a 1980 and had about that same milage on it when I got it.
We took a shake down trip up to Nelson, BC in the SD right after we got it. Next time it's going to be in your "neck of the woods". I think we'll drive up in Bleu and leave him at your house and take the train across Canada.
Thanks again for the compliment.
Ernie

Dirty Ern-

I still want to have my rims polished like your CD. Beautiful car.

Here's a pic of my '85 CD. I know it looks terrible. I had to rescue it from the PO before he trashed it. It looks much better now, but I haven't taken any good pictures, yet.

Those are chrome rims but all the chrome peeled off and they are black from break dust. Also notice the TD muffler some joker put on. I still haven't had that changed and it bothers me every day. Going to get it changed this week.

Craig

BTW Dcraig, I used to admire your blue coupe - pretty car (I think it's the one on Hack's list right?). After I saw it I just wanted one!

It is the one on Hack's list. It was a beautiful car. I was an idiot for selling. It now lives in Virginia.

Doors

300CE,

Salinas Salvage, in Moss Landing Ca. has a 1979 cream coupe with a good driver's side door. Their number is 831-633-6202. Ask for John, I was down there on a raid last weekend.

Ruber isolators can be found at Graniger's Supply for around $1.50 each and have 1/4x20 suds so you can easily retap to install.

I have always bought my used parts from these guys:

http://www.mercedesdismantlers.com/prod.html

Last time I was there they had a few coupes. I was a kid in a candy store. Wouldn't you know that after I left I thought of many other things I needed. Now I have an on-going list.

BTW, I installed 4 new Bilstein MB shocks with the star on them yesterday. Bought them on Ebay from Rusty (and Gary) in GA. Four OE shocks for $250! Thanks Rusty and Gary!

What a difference. 87mph on the freeway and as solid as if I were going 40. Man, what a feeling that was.

I don't think the rubber isolators are a design flaw, it is just that they do their job and wear out.
Buy new and put them in. I had to use JB weld on one of the threads to make new threads...
