What's the highest mileage 300SDL anyone has seen?
Got SDL on the brain....going to pick up one today.
What's the highest mileage 1986-87 300SDL anyone has seen or heard of? I'm pretty sure I recall seeing ones in the 350,000 range. Just curious...thanks. |
Picking up my favorite............I'm sad to say.
I saw one with 350K at the mechanic in Raleigh that I deal with periodically. Unfortunately for that fellow, the head was removed because the tensioning rail finally decided that it was done...........pieces of the aluminum were separating at the bottom of the rail. The cylinders still looked perfectly acceptable for ongoing use. Unfortunately, the fellow was really out of options because the head did crack in two places at some time in its past. |

I'm currently at 340,000 and counting on a #14 head.
I'm the 3rd forum member to own this one. The Don and Hatterasguy being stewards of the big blue ship before me. |
Probably the highest milage one I ever saw was on ebay with the odometer at about 200 k and the car falling to pieces with the interior totally worn out. That one looked like it may have almost made the million miles.

'86 300 SDL = 349,605
Thanks to the members here my DD SDL is still running strong at almost 350k....Mostly highway miles. Probably will hit 350k in a few days as I run back out to AZ from San Diego. I put about 3 to 4,000 a month on.
Original #14 head I'm trying to protect...newer timing chain, V. Pump, water pump, alternator, etc. Hydraulic lifters starting to leak a tad as they are a little noisy after sitting for a couple of days then smooth out after a mile or two back on the road. Original paint (no clear coat) still buffs out like “new” & has a few chips and parking lot dings. Interior is in solid condition probably because it is garaged when not traveling. Going with Depo headlights this week as the front headlight doors are crystallized and cracked:o Best car I've ever owned and I'm 54. Been in the family since new |
I haven't posted in a while but at this I couldn't resist! Serenity is still young at heart at 456,000 miles! Can't wait to hit 500K!

This car at 409K has been for sale for a long time but no taker. Buyer get weary once a car get up to 350K, I would. Unless you are the original owner and it has been well taken care of.

I thought they would all do at least one million miles... at least thats what everyone on ebay & craigslist say

There was one on ebay with just over 900,000 on it, but it had just blown its THIRD motor. It sold for like $700. If it had just blown its first motor I would have bought it and put my spare 603 in it and ran it to 1,000,000, but IMO 4 motors to the million mark is a lame story.

441k by a member here named Aaron, he passed a few years back sadly. :( Car was an '86, stock bottom end. Head had been off twice.
