Should pipe conections be reused?

Good afternoon,

Pulled my 1975 300D (W115) out of storage on the weekend and noticed some fuel dripping from the top of the IP between the ports for Cylinders #1 and #2. I have ordered new copper washers for the pipe connections but I noticed in the FSM that if I have the old style pipe connectors (which I do) they should be replaced/upgraded to the "new" ring hex bolt" design. Has anyone had any luck replacing only the copper washer?

Thanks again,

MAC
