Seeking a large parking lot and BBQ in Northern California

Its spring, and the weather is nice! That means its time for a Mercedes meet and greet... and some BBQ!
Its been an unoffical spring time tredition around here to get together this time of year and I haven't heard any talk of it this year.

Sacramento is about to become a very hot place. It would be nice to get out of town and see all my mercedes friends. We've met in the east bay a few times, the areas around Sacramento, and the north coast. I'm thinking we head to new terretory, maybe Gold Country up near Jim B. or maybe Santa Cruze near charmalu. I figure all we need is a parkign lot that will support 30-40 cars and a BBQ pit. A nice drive to get there would be a bonus.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'm free any weekend after June 10th. I seem to be booked a month out these days.

BBQ ???

Did someone say BBQ? I didn't know they had that out there on the left coast. Seriously. Isn't BBQ a North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas commodity?

Speaking of Texas .....hmmmmm......what's the name of that place on I-45 where the Seventh Annual Texas Mercedes-Benz Owners GTG - Saturday, June 2, 2012 gathering point is? Oh, yeah, Woody's Smokehouse.

Remember that everyone in California came from Somewhere Else, including from your neck of the woods, and they know how to do a pretty good barbecue.

I need to put this on my schedule for next year. my Momma lives in San Antonio and I've driven out to see her a few times. I should time it so I can drive my Cali car out to meet yall!

If I'm gonna drive out in the summer I need to get my AC system back online!

Is this event held in the same place each year? Got family in Huntsville... I really need to come to the next get together.

As far as the ability of CA to BBQ don't forget we invented Tri-Tip.

As a past participant in most of these events - perhaps a nice drive would be up through Marn County to one of the forests/big Redwoods areas into Mendocino County:

Or what about Lake County? Nik and Justin could certainly speak to THAT. I have never even been there except passing through many years ago.

I can't go from June 20 thrugh July 3rd though.

That's because I should be driving a Mercedes Benz on the Autobahn in Germany (and other fun places in Austria and France) on vacation if my new Passport makes it here on time.

I can think of a few good roads in the Lake County area... thats my old stomping ground. I know most people think its pretty far out in BFE some where along $#it creek.

Traveling from Hopland to Lakeport on Hwy 175 is an excellent drive. Lakeport is where I grew up. there are a few parks where we could BBQ. Hopland

Cache Creek canyon, not quite to Lake County from Woodland is an excellent drive with picnic areas along the way in the canyon. Cache Creek

Hwy 29 from Calistoga to Middletown is a good drive. not sure the picnic area situation, but I can look into this. St Helena

Orr Springs Road out of Ukiah to Montgomery Woods is an narrow bit of road, but an excellent drive. and Montgomery Woods looks like Jurassic Park. You can continue down the road through Comptche and end up in the village of Mendocino, excellent views of the ocean here. (Its where they filmed Murder She Wrote) Orr Springs Road

All these roads are about 2-3hrs from SF and Sac. Excellent places to drive, if your willing to drive there.
