ignition cylinder oil leak 300td wont shut off

First, I have read all the threads I can find on this and car not shuting off.

I still cant figure it out.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an oil leak at the ignition cylinder and my car is not turning off with the key. The shut off under the hood still works. I replaced the rubber hose at the vacuum line on the side of the injection pump because it seemed loose. I took out the dash cluster and the vacuume lines on the side of the ignition lock cylinder looked good. It seems like oil is leaking from the bottom of the ignition from a slot on the bottom. I took a picture after I wiped it off but not sure how to post it. The key is hard to turn sometimes also. I dont have a way to test the vacuum. should I just replace the vacuum valve on the side of the ignition? Could that cause the ignition to have an oil leak? If my key is hard to turn what part do I replace?
Thanks. car is 1982 300td

How did you determine that the shut off valve is good? What are the vacuum levels in your vacuum system? Is there oil in the main vacuum lines? Problem is highly unlikely to be in the ignition switch itself. However, you need to fix the hard turning key before it turns for one last time. That is most likely an entirely separate problem.

I dont know if the shut off valve is good. I was thinking that the valve at the ignition is bad bacause of the leak at the cylinder. What part do I repace to fix the hard turning key? I dont have a vacuum pump so I cant test lines. The oil leak is not at the rubber connections it is at the bottom of the ignition cylinder.

What did you mean when you said the shut off valve under the hood was good?

Pull the brown shut off valve vacuum line off the shut off valve. Replace it with a clear piece of vacuum hose. With the engine running, suck on that hose. If it shuts off, you have no problem with the shut off valve? If you see oil rising up thru that clear line, you've got a hole in the diaphragm and the valve needs to be replaced. They're expensive.

There are lots of thread on replacing the ignition tumbler which is probably what needs to be replaced. (or cleaned out and lubricated).

I ment that you can shut the car by pressing the shut off under the hood. Are you saying the brown line on the side of the ip or going to the ignition from brake booster

Brown line on the back of IP down between the IP and the oil filter housing which is where the shut off valve is.

It would probably be simpler to put a filter in. See my thread that you posted on. There are several links on there. If.you read them all you will have enough information to fix your problem.

I saw somthing about a prefilter today. Where do you put it? I thought you had bad rubber lines at ignition? I guess I posted on a different thread than I read yesterday. Thanks and sorry about the mix up. I will try it tomorrow

Dont confuse a permanent filter with a temporary filter in a piece of vacuum hose so you can see if the diaphragm is ruptured without sucking oil into your mouth.

With your wagon, your really should invest in a Mityvac. Far too many vacuum controlled parts in our MB's to be shooting in the dark. Fleecebay is a good place to get them inexpensively.
