$45? that is pricy. you can get them for less than $20 off Fast lane.

The 79 450SLC uses a 75C Thermostat part# 1162000015.

A t-stat change on my '85 300D

Made me go through my system piece by piece as they failed with each new part, T-stat, radiator, coolant recovery tank, auxiliary pump, main hoses, and the monovalve. Okay, the monovalve was due to an a/c issue. I used a cheapo replacement radiator, and while it's working, it doesn't have the same depth in the cross section as the original, so I may change it out sometime. Our '79 has a Nissen replacement of unknown age that has a developing o-ring leak, and the replacement I bought for it was for a 240, so I sent it back, flushed the Nissen out and put it back in. It flows well, and the leak is more of a slow weep, for now. I think I'd go with another Nissens in the the future. Oh, and my temps are higher than before I did the work on the '85, but not too high, and stable at around 92-97C with a/c and ambients of 80-90F in traffic.

The '79 has always run at 90-95C, bumping the century mark in traffic with a/c.

I found what I think is a re-cored Behr radiator at the junkyard the other day and installed it today. I wish that I could afford the peace of mind that comes with a new one, but this one tested good at the radiator shop and seems to be doing a great job. I took the car out on the freeway at 70mph and the temp stayed at 79C. When I got off of the freeway the temp dropped to 75C. It was a little above 55F out tonight so I think I'll be fine for the Summer. Thanks for all of the input.

BTW, I'm using an aftermarket radiator cap rated at 13psi so as not to stress the heater core. I've already performed one dashectomy in my lifetime, don't want to do another.
