Throttle Return Spring

As a new owner of a 98 E300D I find that the throttle return spring is very light. It makes the pedal very sensitive. In looking at the coil spring apparatus that retracts the pedal, I believe that there should be a secondary spring on the device.

If this is true how is it connected and does anyone have a picture of same?

I always thought that it was required to have a secondary return device on throttle actuators.

There are 2 springs, one is a spiral spring around the shaft of the TPS and the other is an extension type spring about 1/2" x 2 1/2" that goes between the cable mount and the bell crank on the TPS.

Thanks KarTek. I'm indebted to you for your help on some past issues with this car. I figured as much on this issue just by looking at some small drilled holes in the bell crank and the pedestal that it is mounted on.

However, I have some spiral springs from HF, and with the pre-drilled holes they will bind against the center pivot. That said, they will work, but it just doesn't seem like the proper alignment. Any chance of a photo of the proper installation?

Thanks ahead of time if you do.
