Blue plastic in the pic.
Yak is that clip under the hood or under the dash? Where is the clip in your picture?

It's on a bracket in the engine compartment, somewhat behind the oil filter housing. Follow the speedometer cable and you can't miss it.

In the picture above, it's just above the lower, black vacuum line. Almost dead center in the photo.

Thanks, is that a spring clip? You squeeze it to loosen the grip?

It's a split barb. Plan on it breaking no matter what you do.

22 months later and you are still looking for the Plastic Clip?

Open the Hood and follow the Cable where it comes out of the Fire Wall on the drivers side. Curves down back under the body. Follow the cable and you will see the Blue Clip.

Crawl under the car and follow the cable from the transmission, up the fire wall. You will see a small "L" bracket with the Blue Clip from that end also.

If that does not give you enough slack, remove the 10mm bolt at the transmission and pull the Cable out.

Different car, same problem. I see the clip although it's not blue as it is covered with soot and oil. The question remains, how do I dislodge the clip? Do I squeeze the 2 prongs and push it out of the bracket? Thanks.

That, or detach the bracket. With 30 year-old plastic, the latter option is probably better.

For the most part, I have been lucky w/o breaking the plastic, but have had a couple at PNP break. If you hit the yards, just grab a few for spares.

I guess you could cut a short piece of hose slightly larger than the Cable. Slit it open on one side, and place it over the cable at the "L" Bracket. then just Zip tie it.

I don`t remember if I used a small Screw Driver to push out one side of the Clip at a time, or used a pair of Needle nose piers to squeeze the end.

As Tango mentioned, just remove the bracket.

Then some one has fitted the wrong length cable to your car.

There are short ones for 4 speed manual gearboxes - longer ones for the 5 speeds - and another bloody length for the automatics...

Yep, broke it. Fastened with a zip tie, the ubiquitous problem solver!
