Is there anything special, or a trick to installing the left front shock on the 87 300SDL? I ordered 4 shocks on-line, and my indy said that one did not fit the front driver side; said it was the wrong shock.

A few weeks later I ordered the shock from AutoZone, and gave it to my Indy. Again, he said it didn't fit. AutoZone ordered another one, and it was the same part number as the one before.

Maybe there is an installation trick my indy doesn't know?

I have done all 3 of my W126's and I don't recall any problems with either front shock, or any difference in the part (left/right) or the procedure for installing it.

Maybe time for a new "Indy" ???

I remember due to the angle one of the bottom two bolts was hard to get to, but with the right combination of socket, extension, and ratchet I got it out and back in in no time.

it is simple but you need to unhook yhe top and swing it to the side, then use a half inch drive 10mm socket on a five inch extension.

As I recall, the bottom bolts are 12 point of the front shocks.

I believe you are correct. Also it helps to put a jack up under the brake rotor and lift just a little bit to change the angle , and then it is easier to get to the bottom bolts.
