In the past 2 weeks I had to drive a lot, any I put the benz to the test, tank filled to the brim, added 1 oz of fuel conditioner. I have driven a total of 700 miles and the yellow low fuel triangle has lit up.

incredible range I would say.

refill was 19 gallons. Im rolling cheaper than a corolla in this. Makes me want to take this car to my chicago trip coming up.

That sounds like over 36 MPG. Is that right?

Your "dirty" diesel just might be "green!"

It was 85% highway 15% city, Remarkable for a 3000cc diesel, Now I can shove my brag into "green 40 mpg snobs" And Im running a cat in it so Im sure Im green.

That's about what I manage in mine, unless I"m feeling lead-footed or the AC is running a lot, in which case I have no choice but to push the pedal more as it really takes some of the already precious HP away... If you cut that cat out, I'd be willing to bet you'd get a couple more, and more HP to boot.:cool:

I've been considering doing that on my 95, I'm sure it's good and plugged at this point and is being counter-productive.

That's fantastic mileage. Did you verify the odometer with a GPS or mile markers?
Your light was on and it only took 19 gallons. That doesn't sound correct. AFAIR all '95 diesels came with 25 gallon tanks. I believe the reserve light comes on with about 1.8 gallons remaining. So I would expect the car to take 23 + gallons not 19. :confused:

Even if it was 23, that's still better than 30 MPG. My 1984 300TD got about 27 on its best days.

I have seen the 606 vehicles hit nearly 40... if they had slightly more power, they would be an awesome vehicle. as is, they are very nice.

now to find a stick for the car, and REALLY rack up the MPG!

yes I verified my odo with a GPS. I always fill up when the light stays put the first time. it takes either 19 or 20, never more and I am in no macho mood to run it dry because the 606 engine does not have a priming bulb.

I dont think any W124 had a 25 gallon tank, the largest is 22 If I recall reading the owners manual correctly.

Actually it is 90 litres or 23.7754847 US gallons. link

Perhaps you have 3 gallons worth of diesel solids on the bottom of that tank. Just think how far you could go with that extra 3 gallons of fuel. :eek:

I have driven around with No cat for about 5000 miles and by butt of pants dyno I lost some low down torque and it sounded terrible, I still am confused on the sound because at exactly 2500 rpm it sounds like a leaky exhaust and I have no leaks. I know thats strange but its true, anyway the CAT I put on was a generic magnaflow diesel CAT 16 inches long. The original MB one is about $1500

Currently Im looking for my badass jumper cables which I cant seem to remember who I lent them to. Once I have them I'll do the dry run.

speaking of crap in the tank, you maybe right because I see the fill cap internal side rusting everytime I take it off. I even PORed it and rust still shows up. Anyway on the same topic why would the light come on at 19 gallons even if I had sludge in the tank because the sender element has the light switch too. Its a fixed tube it cant recalibrate itself or is my reserve 5 gallons ??
