That rag in the turbo may cause issues under load.

It never ceases to surprise what people find in a disco !!
If its AWD I guess you could turn everything around & have the transfer case backward.

Glad I'm doing this....

I drove the truck over to the shop where we are going to do the work, about 20 miles... It started pissing antifreeze after about 10 miles, oil light on anytime I dropped below 1700 rpm... Temp needle pegged twice, and truck had a hard time hitting 50.... Still it got me there. Tomorrow I think I'll head over and pull the 3.9 from it to get it ready for step 2

There actually was a company making adapter plates to mate the 617 to the 4HP22 in the DI's as well as the Disco/Defender Manual boxes. Given parts availability for the 617 it would be an awesome swap for here in the US.

Glad to hear that you're actually going through with the conversion! Keep us updated!

As a side note....I recall that you had a rebuilt 617 engine last year. Is this the same engine?

Yup. Since I had the nice engine already, and fell into this 95 Se7 with a 5 speed and rear air it seemed like the perfect match to me.
