I am still looking for a pull a part type yard in Houston, the ones near my house have two W124 - one 2.5 300D and one E420, but its not a pull a part and the prices they want for some stuff is obscene, e.g. blower motor with broken cages because "chico" broke the thing taking it out was 120 dollars, WTH?? and its really hard telling them what you want.

anyone from Houston point me to some good ones please. I need some small bits and pieces for my W124

Scored a gen-u-wine Pierburg diesel vacuum pump for $14.99 plus core charge plus all the fees and taxes, about $20 total! Looks like it was on the engine only a few years. This one fits all OM60x engines and is the "late" type with the sealed ball bearing (000 230 31 65). New ones are $378.46 from FastLane for a Pierburg (MSRP $418). I suppose you could always take a chance on an off-brand part made goodness knows where but I'd rather have a known component in this critical location.

Nada

I took a half day off of work and went to four yards in the area.
Nothing worthwhile at all for me in a W126. Beat up & junky!
The pickings just seem to be getting slimmer lately.

Today I decided to harvest parts off the Euro 126.
Front and rear Euro bumpers, all 4 door checks, inside chrome door pulls, front and rear manual window regulators, both front windows, front and rear door panels and the inside window wipes.

Took me a while to figure out how the front windows come off the regulator, a little different from the w123.

On the rear door windows, I never did figure out how the glass comes out of the track. the verticle track on the side closest to the lock assy, there are 2 10mm little bolts that hold the track rail to the door. remove the bolts and the piece is loose and can be moved. but stull couldn`t get the glass out of the slot. what is the trick?

I decided to remove the manual heat a/c unit from under the dash. this has the wheel for the ac and 2 for heat for the driver and passenger. then has 2 knobs similar to the 240D. It also has the mono valve from looking under the hood. so might be semi manual?

Removed steering wheel and dash, and all the places the unit is bolted to the body. then notice the 2 AC lines come in on the drivers side behind the brake peddle to the (can`t think of the name of the valve ) looks like I need to hire a Midget to loosen these.

There is the compressor mounted on the R/F of the engine, looks like a Denso, and the bracket looks like added on and not factory. the bolts are 11/16", and 17mm is close, and as tight as these are, didn`t want to round them. so tomarrow I might go back to see what I can do with SAE wrench. whether I buy it or not, or even get it out, I`ll at least have a little more MB experience.

I think you did OK even without half-price day.
Sometimes, I have to get the parts while they're availible. The Euro headlights were already removed from that car and if I'd waited, those bumpers, or even the whole car would have been gone.
They charged me a bit extra for some of the separate rubber trim. Still, it was much cheaper for the pair than some individual Euro bumpers I've seen for sale privately, on eBay, or other forums.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks for the post, Sir DieselKraut. Went back and checked out the 500
and the bumpers were a little too beat up for me. I don't lust after the euro
bumpers like most people, but I'm going to start looking for them more.
When I find nice pair I'll nab em. Hope you get some good finds this weekend.

As I recall, Sixto, it was your idea that I join the other email list and that's where the discussion of aftermarket vs. factory made an impression on me. I probably wouldn't buy that off-brand today but that was 4 years ago; I'm more cautious now.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go, but my brother was resolved to go get a spare engine for his VW. We borrowed dad's truck and went. I figured, now that we had the truck and now that it's a half-off sale, I should pull an engine too. I was lucky and found a nice leak-free 944 engine. Hopefully this week I'll have it in and see how it runs.

Got nothing for the Mercedes though. I wanted a sedan rear bumper for my wagon (I keep losing/breaking the reverse light lenses), but with 2 engines, we kinda ran out of room (and energy).

The word must be out on the price hike on the fuel shut off vac thingy. three diesels I looked at had them removed.

I scored yesterday. went to the Moss Landing PNP. on line inventory said they had 3 123`s, think 83, 84 & 85. what ever. and no 240D`s.

A couple yrs back they rearranged the yard and moved the Euro cars to a different location. now yesterday they have scattered them in with the Jap cars, in 3 different areas, but no 300`s to be found

Then way off on the other side of the yard, found a 82 240D, 4 spd manual. someone pulled the peddle assy, shifter, shift rods, FW and driveline, but left the transmission laying under the car. nice of them to do the work for me.

Check the spedo cable, and the rubber gasket was like new, so grabbed it, then notice the Flex Disk on the trans is new, check the Differential, and it is new, so pull it. while removing it, notice the R/R axle is a fairly new Annular type.
Two injectors were on the floor, so picked them up. and found 2 window switches in a 126 laying on the floor.

The 240 showed 338K on the spedo laying on the seat, but turning through the gears on the trans, this thing is tight and smooth. also the all one piece case. then noticed the VCV on the IP. This was an auto trans before, so this trans possibly has way less miles.

The VC was off, and the inside of it and the Cam, Rockers etc... looked like they were painted black. strange, maybe from lack of oil changes.

When we first got there, the gate was open where they crush the cars. and along side the crusher, was a W123 ready to go in. I have seen this car around Santa Cruz, was a Taxi cab painted white with the name painted in large green letters "Go Green Cab". not sure is they were using Bio or Wvo. but there she was, being tossed asside .

Sunday I finally got the AC/Heat assy out from under the dash of the Euro 126. would have been easier if dumb azz here would have remembered to remove the 3 heater hoses first. couldn`t for the life of me figure out what the %$#& was holding it from coming out. it`s one of those DUHH moments when I get one of those Brain Cramps....ahhh er I mean Senior Moments.

I added up my 5 day 50% buying spree, HMMM wait till the finance dept see`s this. $761.98.
