Water pump repair
I was just wondering if a water pump is leaking from the weeping hole what is the possibility of being repairable. I have a 1994 S350 OM603

I think MB sells rebuilt pumps, its not self serviceable, if its leaking from the weep holes you need to replace it NOW. They are pretty low priced too for a MB part. The best in price and quality is available right here on this sites part sales department.
These pumps usually fail by the use of non-recommded coolant, the original Zerex formulation is quite slick and I think it helps the pump for a long service life.

Anything is repairable, but there is a point at which it is not worth doing. That would be your water pump. You can buy a new, quality pump for not much money. I just installed a Laso new pump, paid $85. You can buy cheaper, but I believe lesser quality.
Rebuilding your oem pump would require that you obtain a new seal and bearing. I don't believe these are readily available. You would also need an arbor press, and the proper dimensions that would place the impeller at the correct depth. Buy a new pump!

As the others have said, replace the pump.
Also, do not try to use a stop leak or anything like that. It's leaking from the weep hole because the seal has begun to fail. The weep hole allows the coolant to leak out which serves as a warning, but it also keeps hot coolant from quickly flushing all of the lube from the bearing, which would lead to rapid failure. Ultimately it will fail anyway, but the weep hole buys you some time. Good luck. |

The problem with ordering one is that it takes 7 days to get here and given the holiday week end it will be 15 days it start it to leak one day ago and I decide to go on the junk yard for a used one to get by unless you thing I have time to wait for it and yes I used a stop leek because I had a tiny leak on the thermostat outlet and now I have this happened.

The local Autozone type places sell Water Pumps for Mercedes; at least for the 617.952s.
Without having the Water Pump in Hand it is hard to say if it is possible for some on at Home to rebuild it. You usually need a Hydraulic or Arbor Press and on some Pumps the Bearing is press out through the Front. The problem with that is there is ofte no way to Pull of the Impeller so you end up pressing on the Pump shaft and hoping the Impeller will come loose when you reach the Housing. What ofen happens is the Impeller cracks. That is not a big problem if you have some sort of Kit that has a new Impeller with it. I have not seen any such Kits for a 617.952. Also pressing something out of a Water Pump with an Aluminum Housing with out the proper sized tools to do so can damage the Housing.

Did you try calling Phil? He could have shipped Thursday, and had it in your hand Friday from the Los Angeles warehouse. May still be able to get it to you by Saturday.. .

Long ago special pliers were invented for rebuilding water pumps and they were called, not surprisingly, "Water Pump Pliers." These tongue-and-groove pliers made the name "Channel-lock" very well known.
Of course, that was back in the days of the straight-8 Buick/Pontiac and the Flathead Fords, when you could buy a rebuild kit for these 20-lb. blocks of cast iron, probably for under a buck. It's not like that anymore. Good luck. |

I have a water pump from a .971 project engine. I won't need it for a while (months, maybe years) but it's a good pump so I don't want to sell and have to buy another one. It's not a terrible job so if you can't wait for a new pump to be delivered, take it and return it when you have time to get another one.
