Angry How can I add R12 to 1981 300SD?

Hi everyone,

Been a busy guy since returning from Colombia! Recently charged up the '94 GMC K2500 with a refrigerant kit and had an extra can and decided to charge up the 1981 300SD turbo diesel. My problem is I can't FIND it . The truck was easy to find and I charged up the system by inverting the can and allowing the eco friendly coolant enter the a/c system. Older Mercedes' mention the a/c equipment to be in the passenger door! I am not johnny mechanic, but I will give it the old diesel try! I routinely change the oil & filter & fuel filter...also the power steering fluid and filter. If anyone has some pictures or a tutorial on how to charge a/c please help .

Great to be back in Great White North BC!

Both ports wille be obvious if you open the hood and look from the front.

if it's the same as my 82, the suction port you need to connect your can to, is in front of the false firewall, in front of the brake master cylinder... large line nut connection right inside the engine compartment.

However, the 94 GMC should be 134, so you may not have 12, you may have 134, and the fittings are different with 12.

r12 for truck and benz

The A/C recharge kit I bought is "Red Tek 12a" that replaces R-134a (truck) and R12 substitutes. I will look around the master cylinder as pointed out for A/C line

Thanks for the description, I found it. Had to use the adapter piece in the kit for "tractors". Blows cool air! Is quiet on the "ec" setting in the climate control cluster but sounds rickety on the up/low arrows when they are depressed. The rickety sound is coming from the front of the vehicle, but hard to pinpoint where. perhaps some bearings are dry...

Thanks for everyone's help, now I can keep my girl cool

Ec setting (economy) should shut the compressor off and just blow air from outside....
