1987 300SDL Trap Oxidizer/Turbo issue

I've seen a ton of posts about this and figured I would chime in.

My car started spewing smoke from the tailpipe the other day so after a little research I thought it might be the turbo shooting oil into the intake.

I took the cross-pipe off and ran the engine and here is a link to that video: VID00124.mp4 - YouTube

The smoke keeps coming out regardless of whether the cross pipe is connected or not.

Car idles fine but starts knocking and really smoking if I take it above 1200 rpms.
Apparently the recall was already done on this VIN (motor was swapped a few years ago by the PO and the new one unfortunately came with the trap oxidizer) and so I'm stuck trying to figure out where to go next on my own.

I know the oxidizer needs to be replaced but haven't located the newer style pipe...anyone have a used one they want to part with?

Oil is definitely in the turbo tub.

Just a FYI, this was running 50/50 veggie and diesel for the past 5K miles with absolutely no issues with smoking.

I finished installing my greasecar kit last Saturday and this started happening Monday on my drive home.

Currently I am running only diesel and the smoking definitely has a motor oil smell and I went through 2 quarts of oil on my 70 mile ride home.

I purchased the $25 compression kit from HF yesterday to check that out as well this weekend.
Any suggestions are surely welcome.
Thanks! Jere

Head gasket may have failed at the oil passage in front of #1 cylinder, putting oil in the cylinder. Removing the plug in the exhaust manifold at #1 may show oil. Crank engine with #1 injector removed and see if oil comes out.

I'll pull the injector tomorrow and give it a shot...had to spend the day installing drywall and then a security door on the house. Been putting off the honey-do list for awhile. Chief, I'll PM you shortly Thanks everyone!

if you can't find the pipe i think you can gut the trap ox; if someone with experience on this can chime in to verify. i do remember though you have to be careful when gutting it because the material inside the trap ox will react with water (or sweat)

Ok, finally got to work on this thing. Pulled the #1 glow plug and cranked the engine with no oil shooting out. Took awhile to get the nut on the top of the wire off...sure glad I found the how to on using a screwdriver to help in the aiding of the removal of the nut. The glow plug is shot so I'm going to go ahead and swap out all six of them, but I realized that NJ wanted me to pull the #1 injector...oops. Anyway, next is to pull the #1 injector and see if I have oil from there. I'll keep everyone posted and thanks for the help.

UPDATE: 27mm 12 point deep socket didn't fit...any suggestions as to the correct size to pull the injector out?

Anyone have any suggestions as to the correct socket for the job? I took the 12 point back and got a 1 1/16 deep socket impact but that is too thick to fit in the slot. Any particular brand that I can find locally? Craftsman is my next stop...Kobalt from lowes didn't work with the 12point 27mm or the 6 point impact 1 1/16. Any suggestions will work, just getting tired of driving back and forth for 10 miles and not getting the correct one. Thanks!

Mine was made by Wright in the USA and says 49-27 on it. It is 27mm and 6 point. I bought it at a local Hardware store.

Thanks for the info! I went to Sears and the craftsman 6 point 1 1/16 deep socket fits on there perfectly. Now to get a cheater bar and I'll have that sucker off in no time. Then I'll finally know if there is oil coming out of there and hopefully can rule that out as being a problem and try something else.

Jere

Recall was already performed according to the OP in the first post.

Ok, finally got the fuel injector off...had to use a 21 inch 1 1/4" piece of galvanized pipe as my cheater bar though. Even with that I had to put a little effort into it. NO oil is coming out at all so that's a good thing right? I'm thinking of just pulling each one of them and soaking them overnight in my can of cleaner and then trying to put them back in and try again. I didn't see that heat shield anywhere when I pulled the injector though...is that normal? What should I check next?
