My lifters always complain about new oil

I have a 87 300D and every time I give the car an oil change, 1 or 2 of my tappets complain "on and off" for about 1K-1500 miles. Is this something I should be worried about?

I have a 87 190E 2.3 gas that had a bad lifter for about 15K and it ruined the cam lobe also.

On my diesel it comes and goes 15 min ticking, 25 min Quiet, 3min ticking, 15min quiet, and so on. for no longer than 1500 miles after the change.

I have ran the Mobile Delvac1 syn. before and no diff. plus, the lifters in question and a gasket is roughly the same price as a Syn. oil change. so Ive been thinking about doing them, but have never seen what it intales to actually do it, I have only done them on Mercedes Inline gas engines before.

You both may want to try a couple oil changes with a group 4 base stock synthetic. I think that's cheaper than 12 new tappets.

Just the one time on synthetic or more? New math? Tappets are $22 each or $264 total. The extra money for the synthetic oil is about $40-50 per oil change. With my math that's at least 5 synthetic oil changes. I'm not even going to mention easier cold starts as it doesn't really apply to you PNW folks or you people that live in the Q-tip state. Lets not bring up EDI either.

I agree, but they may not need to be replaced. Hey if you have extra money go ahead and replace them. How many miles on the engine?

around 225-230. My SDL had all new lifters at around that age or so. Hatty changed them all out. Should have kept that SDL.

I was just planning on changing the 2 that are making noise for now,
Im on a budget and doing the work myself, so I dont have to pay someone every time the cam comes out..
I cant afford right now to replace things before their use is up.
It is what it is.

FYI:

The camshaft and tappets have been superseded per EPC.

.
Is this usually a redesign due to issues with parts[s]?
