Looking for a replacement turbo for my 116 300SD
I found a few on eBay, but not really sure if they would be worthwhile.
This auction claims to be selling a "new" turbo, but I'm not sure if that means rebuilt or newly manufactured. Would this be a good idea, or am I better off spending another $200 for MetricMotors rebuild?

Do some research on that guy before buying from him.

It certainly does look like a new one and I would not doubt that it is. All the turbos used by Mercedes were manufactured either by KKK or Air Research. I would recommend that you find out who made this one.

That seller has a fair amount of negative feedback. These turbos last a long time, why not get one at a junkyard?

After a bit of investigating, and calling around, it turns out these turbos are Chinese manufactured copy-cats of the original. The company that sells it is Rothenbacher Engineering of NC, apparently the parts they sell are awful and have lead to many catastrophic engine failures for many Merc/Audi/VW owners. I think its very clearly worth paying the extra $200 for a MetricMotors rebuild!

New is nice to have, but there are a lot of good turbo`s in the yards. I think the price for a PNP Turbo is around $60 maybe a little more.
when i check the play on the shaft (up and down) they all have a little as well as the one on our 85 300D. as long as they don`t have horizontal movement, they should be good. A new one is pretty though. ![]() I didn`t know metric Motors sold parts, thought it was just assembled parts in the form of an engine. Charlie
