Cruise Control/ABS Interconnection
1987 300D W124
Started getting action from my ABS, but only when I was slowing to a stop. Indie said "wheel sensor", so replaced the driver side sensor. At the same time the ABS action started, I lost cruise control. Indie says they're interconnected - loose ABS sensors, loose cruise control. Is there any truth to this? I trust my indie, but I don't see the connection. Still no cruise control. Might need to replace rear sensor. Is that the one on the rear end housing? Not getting any more action from the ABS. Thanks!

I had the identical car for 5 years, have all the schematics, only connection between ABS and cruise control is the brake light switch. If you lose that switch, both will malfunction. Check the switch or have someone stand behind car to check when you press the brake pedal. Switch failure is a common problem, I had at least one.

No direct connection between the two, except for the pedal switch as mentioned. Typically the ABS sensors can be cleaned rather than replaced, so try the easiest solutions first.

Thanks, guys...
Brake lights work fine when I step on the brakes, so that's not it. Is there another switch there just for the cruise? Sounds like my indie needs an edumaction on the cruise control system in this car!

Cruise
Quote:
Trace the black/red/white wire from the brake switch to X20, a 2-terminal junction block under the dash near the brake pedal. There should be a total of 4 wires at pin 1 of the block: 1 wire from the brake switch, 1 wire to the cruise control amplifier, 1 wire to ABS and to the alarm system, 1 wire to the stop lamps. All 4 wires should be black/red/white. With the key on, press the brake pedal; this pin 1 should go to +12 Volts and the brake lights should come on. If this pin somehow has +12 Volts all the time, the cruise control will never work; not sure what ABS would think in that case; brake lights would be on all the time. Check it anyway and report. Note that ABS requires a functioning OVP relay to work. Cruise does not; the alarm does not. Jeremy
