so much oil!

so i have this 1985 300d from hell. the stock engine was from cali. and had alll the lovely cali emission stuff on it, at about 216k miles it gained a rod knock and was sold off to the guy i bought it from. He quickly dropped a 1984 300sd engine in it with 138k miles on it. i bought it about a year later, not running, and got it to where it was drive able. shortly after getting it running it started to leak oil everywhere! the sucker eats a gallon of oil between eat oil change and the engine is just black on the sides and under it. the oil leak is greater on the passenger side and flows from the where ever it starts down the exhaust. it doesn't start leaking onto the exhaust tell after it it bends down under the car. i have the car drained of oil and am going to replace the turbo return line and delivery line gasket and also replace the oil filter housing. If you guys can think of anything else that might be leaking please tell.
P.S. the crankcase breather was capped and that why the car wouldn't run when i bought it. could this cause some kind of gasket to blow?

YES!

I would thoroughly clean the engine and then start it up and watch to see where the leaks are. There's an excellent chance you have more than one.

Four quarts in 3,000 miles isn't really that bad. I used to have a Mercury with a 351 that leaked a quart every 80 miles when I first got it. I also used to have a Suzuki with bad valve seals that burned a quart every tank of gas.

To Quote my 9 year old; "Dude Seriously!" Four quarts IS bad! That's 1 quart every 750 miles, or every other fill up. Care to guess where that oil ends up. I suppose if you live in the desert it just goes into the sand, but some of us live near water.

I wouldn't start replacing stuff until I had a good idea what the problem was. Clean it off at the car wash and then look closely. Turbo feed line can leak on passenger side.

Not to mention, make sure your PCV system is venting correctly.

what are the odds that the head gasket blew from the backed up presser?

It wouldn't take out the head gasket. Valve cover gasket, front and rear main seals, oil pan seals, very possibly.

well thank you. i was taking the oil filter housing off and one of the oil cooler lines welded its self to the housing! so it turned the brass into a rapped coil. i hate this car sometimes!!!!! good thing the new filter housing came with two oil cooler lines as part of the deal or i would die!
